Pinterest Weddings
Let’s talk Pinterest…
Pinterest is not ruining weddings — but couples misunderstanding Pinterest is putting unnecessary pressure on and it is tainting couples wedding experience.
Every week, planners, stylists and florists meet couples with folders on their phones and cut outs from magazines of beautiful images.
However, there is an industry truth that couples NEED to hear:
Most Pinterest weddings aren’t real weddings!
Unfortunately it’s true, many Pinterest images and even pictures in popular bridal magazines showcase pictures of styled photo shoots specifically engineered for visual perfection — not lived experience.
Those breathtaking backdrops
The stunning florals
The ceremony installations suspended in jaw dropping angles
The drinks station that gives ten different options all impeccably displayed
Well, the truth is that you’re often looking at the work of multiple, elite suppliers with unrestricted creative freedom, professional models standing in as the couple, multiple days preparing, setting up then hours capturing and editing the images.
An environment controlled entirely for the camera!
There are no timeline pressures.
No guest logistics.
No budget negotiations.
Which is exactly what’s needed for suppliers promotional material.
There is nothing inherently wrong with styled shoots — they push the industry forward creatively. But problems begin when couples mistake styled shoots for reality.
But, let’s be real…
Your wedding is not a brand launch.
It is not a magazine spread.
It is not a performance.
And the moment you start planning from a place of visual competition, you drift away from what actually makes your wedding, YOUR wedding.
Styled shoots can cost thousands — sometimes tens of thousands — and that is beforecatering for a single guest.
Always remember that guests genuinely remember the following things:
• How warmly they were welcomed
• Whether the day flowed
• The food
• The music
• How happy you seemed
So, should you ignore Pinterest?
No. Use it to understand your likes and dislikes but not to decide on every detail of your wedding.
You do not need a Pinterest wedding.
You need a wedding that genuinely reflects who you are as a unique, individual couple. One that showcases your personalities, interests and style.
