MODULE 01

Just Engaged

Congratulations You’re Engaged!

Getting engaged is exciting, emotional and often a little overwhelming.

Before you dive into venues, Pinterest boards and supplier enquiries, it is worth taking a moment to get clear on what matters to you as a couple.

The way you set the tone at the very beginning of your plans will shape your entire planning experience and make the months ahead feel calmer, more focused and far more enjoyable!

Your wedding day is more than just an event, it’s the start of your lifelong story.

Here, in Module 1, you'll find expert videos and easy-to-follow PDFs designed to guide you through the early stages of your engagement and the tasks you need to do first.

A Few Important Reminders…

Before you get started, there are a few important things we would like you to keep in mind:

  • Be clear from the outset about how you talk about your wedding plans with your family and friends. While their opinions usually come from a good place, this is ultimately your day and your decision as a couple.

  • Be open to compromise, but remember that compromising on a few details should not change the overall vision or feeling you want for your wedding.

  • Set aside a little time every couple of weeks to check in on your plans and priorities. This helps you track progress, stay organised and avoid things building up into last-minute stress.

  • Do not spend time visiting venues, attending wedding fairs or contacting suppliers that do not align with your core criteria, style or budget. It is rarely productive and often ends up costing you both time, money and energy.

Most of all, enjoy this chapter.

This is a special time in your life, and with the right approach, planning your wedding can be the best day of your life!

Lets Get Started…

Communication Is key

First things first!

You’re engaged, excited, and your nearest and dearest have congratulated you on the proposal.

Now is the time to have your first honest conversation as a newly engaged couple. Find a relaxed, quiet moment to sit down together with no distractions and work your way through these questions. This conversation will set the foundation for your entire wedding experience.

  • What feels most important to each of us when it comes to the wedding? For example, food or cars?

  • What kind of budget are we comfortable with?

  • Is anyone planning to contribute financially? If so, who and how much, and are there any expectations attached?

  • How will we pay for the wedding?

  • Do we have credit cards we can use?

  • Who do we imagine being at the wedding?

  • Which parts of the wedding excite us the most?

  • What type of ceremony do we want? Traditional, modern, relaxed, religious, non-religious?

  • Do we have the time and energy to plan the wedding ourselves, or would we like support from a wedding planner?

This chat is all about connecting, dreaming, and starting your journey together.

Details

Once you’ve talked through the big elements of the wedding, it’s time to think about the practical elements that will help you choose the right venue and suppliers.

As you begin researching venues, have a think about the following elements:

  • Does the venue have a licensed ceremony area?

  • Can we get married indoors or outdoors?

  • Does the venue allow outside caterers?

  • Are live bands or musicians allowed?

  • Is there on-site accommodation?

If so, what does it cost, who is responsible for paying, and do we have to book all of the accommodation?

  • Does the venue offer exclusive use so the space is ours?

  • Are there plenty of great photo spots?

  • Is parking available, and does it come at an additional cost?

  • Is the venue open all year?

  • Does the venue offer full weekend weddings or just single-day options?

  • Is there a wedding coordinator included?

These questions will help you determine which venues are suitable and which you can cross off the list without the need to visit, saving you time and money.

The Ring

Your engagement ring is a beautiful symbol of this next chapter, so it’s worth taking a little time to understand your ring, how to look after it properly, and to make sure it’s protected.

Initially, have a moment to yourself and then perhaps a conversation with your partner about your ring, and consider the following:

  • Are you happy with how your ring looks?

  • Does your ring feel comfortable?

  • Does your ring fit properly, or does it feel a little loose or tight?

  • Do you know what your ring is made from?

The metal, the stone, and any other special details?

  • Do you know how to best care for your ring?

  • Do you have a receipt or a valuation?

  • Is the ring insured, and if not, should you arrange this now?

Your engagement ring is a piece of jewellery you’ll wear daily, so making sure it fits well, suits your lifestyle, and is properly insured will give you peace of mind.

Once you have had this conversation and the important tasks are ticked off, you can enjoy showing everyone your ring without worry.
